My Grandfather, Donald Dearborn Wyman, was a friend and a sailing buddy of Mr. Smith's. I have pictures of the two of them together and pictures (slides) that my grandfather took of Smith at his easel by the window of his Hingham home. There are photos taken from the outside as well so that you can see what his home looked like.

I am fortunate enough to own a painting of Smith's that my Grandfather and Grandmother owned. It is what I call a Dunescape. I don't know but could speculate that it was comissioned by or gifted to my Grandfather. An appraiser at Skinner's Auction House gave it a valuation of about two thousand dollars. I would never sell it but wanted to know for insurance purposes.

I've looked through a number of websites about Smith and have never found this painting. Although it is badly in need of a cleaning his wonderful use of color shows itself magnificently. It is in the usual simple gilt frame.

Thought you might like to hear about this. If you like, I could send you a photograph of the painting. I need first to purchase a digital camera.

What you have in your possession is an original Frank Vining Smith print. FV Smith pioneered the art of high end prints on a textured surface. These prints were crafted during his lifetime, and he oversaw the process. I cannot give you an accurate value of the piece at this time. I will do some research and get back to you.

I have a nautical painting ( or print) of Frank Vining Smith and would like to know if it is an original. If not, did he have his paintings printed this is on a textured board? I would like to know it's value, can you help?

Greetings. Just discovered your quality website and am pleased to learn more about Mr. Smith and some of his work. We've had an original in the family since probably the early 1940's. Titled "12 Knots Blocked Flat," it's a 32" x 42" image in the original gilt frame. Oil on canvas, artist's name on lower right - "Frank Vining Smith."

I have a photo and more detailed provenance if it's of interest to anybody. Happy to share. Not sure how to send the photo to your site. We're in southeastern Wisconsin, but I'm pretty sure my Grandfather acquired the piece in New England where he had a summer home near Sakonnet Point, RI.
