My father enjoyed sailing, and lived in Hingham, MA for at least the last fifty years of his life.  His father, William A. Thibodeau, founded the Automobile Legal Association, an auto and travel club in Boston, which was passed on to his two sons, Philip and Paul, and then on to Philip’s son, David.  The ALA is no longer in existence, but it looks like “The ALA Green Book”, which provided information and detailed maps for motorists in the eastern states and some of Canada for many years from probably 1920, can be found on the web through Google.  It seems that has been used quite a bit as a reference for information on old time roads and highways.

My father, Paul H. Thibodeau, told me quite a while ago that the artist had given it to him, but he didn’t say how he knew him.  On the back is written:
